Abstract:
Epidemic thunderstorm asthma represents a significant global public health challenge. In the early morning of April 2, 2024, a tertiary general hospital in Chongqing admitted 125 patients with thunderstorm asthma within 2 hours following a thunderstorm: 64 were mild cases, 56 were moderate cases, 3 were severe cases, and 2 were critical cases, with no deaths reported. After the incident, the hospital immediately activated the emergency plan and set up a multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment team, as well as a management team, enabling rapid case identification, accurate diagnosis, and severity-based clinical interventions in strict accordance with the asthma diagnosis and treatment guidelines, ensuring effective patient care. According to this experience, it was recommended to strengthen the training of medical personnel to improve the ability to identify thunderstorm asthma, to implement dynamic monitoring and effective early warning of extreme weather and enhance public awareness of prevention, and to strengthen the identification and management of high-risk groups of epidemic thunderstorm asthma.
