Objective To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of edaravone in the treatment of patients with toxic encephalopathy caused by 1, 2-dichloroethane.
Methods A total of 38 patients with toxic encephalopathy caused by 1, 2-dichloroethane were randomly divided into 2 groups, i.e. edaravone treatment group and routine group. The symptomatic and supportive treatment were given to the patients in routine group, while edaravone was additionally given to the treatment group. After treatment for two weeks, the Glasgow Coma Scale, the Modified Barthel Index and Mini-Mental State Examination were used to assess the curative effectiveness of these two groups of patients.
Results After treatment, the scores of Glasgow Coma Scale, Modified Barthel Index, Mini-Mental State Scale in the edaravone treatment group were better than those of routine group(P < 0.05). Effective rate was 85.0% in the edaravone treatment group which was higher than that(55.6%) in the routine treatment group(P < 0.05).
Conclusion The edaravone is effective and safe in the treatment of toxic encephalopathy caused by 1, 2-dichloroethane.
