Analysis of blood biochemical indexes of 241 seamen

  • Objective To analyze blood biochemical indexes of 241 seamen and discuss main anomaly indexes and put forward related prevention and healthcare measures.
Methods Totally 241 male seamen from an ocean shipping company of an energy group in Shenzhen were selected for the observation group, and another 236 male medical staff were selected for the control group. Blood biochemical index tests were conducted and related results were analyzed.
Results The abnormality (unusually high)of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), direct bilirubin (DBIL), total bilirubin (TBIL), creatine kinase (CK) and blood uric acid (BUA) of seamen in observation group were 21.58%, 19.92%, 17.84%, 19.92%, 21.16%, 12.86%, and 19.92%, respectively, significantly higher than those of the control group (9.75%, 10.59%, 7.20%, 11.02%, 10.17%, 4.24% and 7.63%, respectively)(P < 0.01). No significant differences were observed in abnormal rates of the remaining indexes between observation group and control group (P > 0.05).
Conclusion Blood biochemical indexes represented changes mainly characterized by lipid metabolism disorder, high bilirubin, CK and BUA, which was probably due to multiple factors, such as dietary pattern, occupational noise exposure, worse mental health status, work in shifts and unhealthy living habits like smoking, drinking and insufficient body-exercise. Therefore, seamen should adjust dietary pattern, strengthen personal protection from noise, maintain positive and optimistic mental state, develop healthy living habits and be regularly implemented health surveillance in order to improve personal health status.
