Status and influencing factors of emergency management ability of public health emergencies among medical students in Anhui Province

  •   Objective   To investigate the current situation and influencing factors of medical students' emergency management ability for public health emergencies in Anhui Province, so as to provide basis for further improving the emergency management level of public health emergencies in the whole society.
      Methods   An online questionnaire survey was conducted among 1 287 medical students in 4 undergraduate medical colleges in Anhui Province. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the relevant factors affecting the current situation of medical students' emergency management ability for public health emergencies.
      Results   A total of 1 190 valid answers were collected with the effective recovery rate of 92.46%. The average score of medical students' emergency management ability for public health emergencies was(54.51 ± 10.79). The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that compared with medical students with poor ability to accept new things and new knowledge, the scores of emergency management ability of students with the best, the better and the average acceptance ability were increased by 19.456, 15.807 and 12.016 points, respectively (P < 0.01); compared with the medical students who reviewed occasionally after the theory course, the scores of emergency management ability of the students who reviewed frequently or sometimes increased by 8.322 and 3.801 points, respectively (P < 0.01);compared with medical students who had not received systematic courses in health emergency medicine, the score of emergency management ability of students who had systematically studied increased by 4.165 points (P < 0.01);compared with female medical students, the score of male students' emergency management ability increased by 3.408 points (P < 0.01);compared with medical students from cities, the score of rural students' emergency management ability decreased by 2.872 points (P < 0.01);compared with medical students with poor academic performance, the scores of emergency management ability of students with the best, the good and average academic performance increased by 11.074, 8.781 and 5.619 points, respectively (P < 0.01);compared with medical students who had not participated in clinical internship, the score of emergency management ability of students who participated in clinical internship increased by 1.680 points (P < 0.05).
      Conclusions   The emergency management ability of medical students in Anhui Province was at a medium level and needs to be further improved. We should improve the medical students' ability of emergency management of public health emergencies by improving the students' ability to accept new things, urging students to review after class on time, and strictly grasping the students' academic achievements in professional courses.
