Application of MRI T1mapping technique in nervous system examination of manganese poisoning

  •   Objective  The caudate nucleus head, putamen, globus pallidus, thalamus and corpus callosum of bilateral caudate nuclei in patients with chronic manganese poisoning by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T1mapping technique were quantitatively analyzed to explore the application value of this technique in the examination of nervous system of manganese poisoning cases.
Methods  A total of 24 patients with chronic manganese poisoning and 36 subjects in the control group were examined by MRI. T1mapping images were generated by Brain Quant sequence. T1 values of the head of bilateral caudate nucleus head, putamen, globus pallidus, thalamus and corpus callosum were measured and compared.
Results  The T1 values of the caudate nucleus head, putamen, globus pallidus and thalamus in the chronic manganese poisoning group were lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The T1 values of ROI in the corpus callosum of patients with chronic manganese poisoning were approximately the same as that of the control group (P > 0.05).
Conclusions  T1mapping technique can be used in the auxiliary diagnosis and differentiation of patients with chronic manganese poisoning, and has a good application prospect.
